- What a wonderful time to be developer. I'm down here at the BUILD Conference in San Francisco and Microsoft has just launched Visual Studio Code - a code-optimized editor for Windows, Mac, and Linux and a new member of the Visual Studio Family. Visual Studio Code (I call it VSCode, myself) is a new free developer tool. It's a code editor, but a very smart one.
- In Visual Studio, we usually work with project files (which contains list of files) rather than folders. I suppose you are a webdeveloper, since folder based project are typical for web development. “File -> Open -> Web Site” is equivalent for Open Folder in Visual Studio.

MonoDevelop Can be used to open and manipulate Visual Studio project on a Mac. It can however only open.csproj files, not the legacy.vcproj. You can convert your old project to a compatible one, using Visual Studio Conversion Wizard. Open File Ctrl+Shift+G Outdent Shift+Alt+Left Arrow Overtype Mode Ins Page Down PgDn Page Down Extend Shift+PgDn Page Up PgUp Page Up Extend Shift+PgUp Parameter Info Ctrl+Shift+Space Paste Ctrl+V Shift+Ins Paste Parameter Tip Ctrl+Shift+Alt+P Peek Backward Ctrl+Alt+-Peek Definition Alt+F12 Peek Forward. OpenInCode ? Finder toolbar app to open current folder in Visual Studio Code Installation and usage: Download app or using brew cask install open-in-code (if using VS Code Insiders, download this instead); Move Open in Code.app to /Applications; Go to /Applications; While holding Command key, drag Open in Code.app to Finder toolbar.
Microsoft lifecam studio for mac. Extract the app from the ZIP file and run it.
You can't because there's no Visual Studio on Mac OS. And if you're talking about Visual Studio Code then it's not compatible with the *.VSIX extensions because it's an entirely different product.

Just to update this with the current status, as things have changed in the last year.
VSC have (somewhat) support for vsix: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/extensions/publish-extension#_visual-studio-code-compatibility
And Microsoft is working on a Visual Studio for Mac: https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/visual-studio-mac/
